Reflecting on a Year of Growth
May 26, 2025From creating backyard performances as a child to curating citywide events, leading dance intensives, and mentoring the next generation of artists, this season of life has reminded me that growth often shows up in quiet persistence and meaningful connection.
One of my most personal moments this year came while choreographing SpongeBob the Musical at my daughter’s magnet arts school. When the final number hit and I saw my aunt in the audience give me a thumbs up, I nearly burst into tears. That gesture was for every family member who has cheered me on—from living room recitals to Broadway-sized stages. It reminded me that I’m still that little girl who turned music into stories, and I’m proud of who she’s become.
So far this year, I’ve been fortunate to:
✅ Facilitate professional learning for dance educators across districts
✅ Curate performance opportunities for students and teachers
✅ Build partnerships that bridge advocacy, equity, and artistry
✅ Speak on panels, teach masterclasses, and develop new program models
✅ Mentor both teachers and students as they grow in confidence and skill
✅ Work with incredible creatives and educators who remind me how powerful this work truly is
These experiences—whether onstage, in classrooms, or behind the scenes—have reaffirmed why I do what I do. The long days, deep conversations, creative risks, and even administrative challenges have all contributed to something bigger: the ability to help others move with purpose and possibility.
So as we move toward summer, I want to leave you with this:
Growth isn’t always loud. It’s often layered in collaboration, reflection, and the gentle unfolding of new seasons. If you’ve been moving nonstop, take a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate what you’ve already built this year.
✨ You’re doing more than you think. Keep leaping forward.
