The Road to 50: Recharge and Refocus

They say age is just a number, but turning 49 this spring gave me more than a number it gave me a mission.

This next chapter is personal. I’m calling it The Road to 50 not just a countdown to a milestone birthday, but a commitment to become the strongest, clearest, most joy-filled version of myself. I want to enter this next decade with energy, intention, and ease. Not burnout. Not survival mode.

And it starts this summer.

Reconnecting With Movement

As a former professional dancer, movement has always been my medicine. But if I’m honest, life and leadership sometimes pushed my body to the background. So this summer, I’m bringing it front and center again.

I’m committing to move 6 days a week, not just for performance or fitness, but for presence. Some days it’s a long walk. Some days it's dancing in the kitchen. Other days it's a full MotionWorks session my own wellness program designed to blend intentional movement, joy, breathwork, and reflection.

✨ Try This: 3-Minute End-of-Day Movement Reflection

  • Put on a calming playlist.
  • Close your eyes and do a slow body scan from head to toe.
  • Let your body guide a gentle stretch or sway in response to what you’re feeling.
  • End with the affirmation: “I return to myself with grace.”

It’s a small moment but it helps me stay grounded, grateful, and aware.

Refueling Every Part of Me

Wellness is more than workouts. It’s also:

  • More water every day (hydration is healing).
  • Rest real, unapologetic rest.
  • Meditation and journaling to reflect and release.
  • Planning because future me needs a framework.
  • Fun because joy is fuel too.

I’m also savoring precious time with my daughter as she prepares for her first year of college, while creating more space to be present with my other two kids who are home and less scheduled. I’m saying yes to midday dates with my husband, coffee with friends, and moments that fill my cup.

Better, Not Just Busier

This season isn’t about doing more it’s about being more aligned. More present. More joyful.

As I get closer to 50, I’m not just aging I’m evolving. And I’m ready to walk, dance, breathe, and laugh my way into that next decade with intention.
